To Dorothy Emily,

November 25, 2010

Sometimes beautiful things happen in the midst of tough times. And while they would have been beautiful on their own, in the context of the surrounding troubles they shine like a beacon.

One of my bridesmaids had a baby girl over the weekend, and that news made me smile and laugh and cry with joy at a time when I never thought I’d be able to do any of those again.

I took this Polaroid on the day she was born. I hope it makes her smile in the years to come.
